JP Stands with the People Against City Hall in Treme
New Orleans City Council At-Large, Div. 2 candidate, JP Morrell, continues to voice his opposition against plans to move City Hall to Treme.
"Unlike my opponents who are incumbent Councilmembers, I have never wavered in my commitment to permanently take the Municipal Auditorium off the table as a future site for City Hall. The interim zoning district (IZD) proposed by my opponent only delays the deal, and that IZD ends in a year," said Morrell. "Once elected, I will fight to end this misguided plan - once and for all. And, I'll work closely with the community to craft a plan to revive the Municipal Auditorium."
This morning, the Save Our Soul Coalition, Cheryl Austin, executive director of the Greater Treme Consortium and Jarrett Cohen, president of the Historic Faubourg Treme Association, will make a presentation to the City Council about their vision for the proposed Louis Armstrong Park Cultural Center in Congo Square.
"I support these community advocates and applaud them," said Morrell. "The City needs to do a better job listening to its residents when making decisions that impact their neighborhoods. Whether it's zoning, streets or parks, I will make sure neighbors are actively engaged, and heard, in the process."
