JP Talks Trash about #DIYGovernment & Shares Opportunities

With trash piled sky high across NOLA, JP booted up to clean neighborhoods and to talk with local media about why "Do-It-Yourself Government" really stinks. Check it out:

New Orleans East Leadership Endorses JP Morrell

New Orleans East Leadership (NOEL) is endorsing JP Morrell for New Orleans City Council At-Large, Division 2 in the Nov. 13 election. NOEL is committed to the economic, social, and educational advancement of the citizens in New Orleans East and the Greater New Orleans metropolitan area.

"I'm proud to have earned NOEL's endorsement, and I will continue working shoulder to shoulder with New Orleans East residents to deliver the resources this community deserves," said Morrell, who is also the official candidate of the Democratic Party.

As a State Senator, JP fought to bring back a hospital to New Orleans East, standing up to the powers that be when they were planning only an urgent care clinic for the area. He also battled former Gov. Bobby Jindal over the state’s refusal to grant forgiveness for Road Home funds used to help the people to return home and to rebuild.

As one of the biggest challenges facing New Orleans East, reducing crime will be one of JP's top priorities. To this day, he is the only candidate to release a detailed crime plan that takes a multifaceted approach to making our city safer, including specific measures to reform the juvenile justice system and expand opportunities for our young people.

JP will also focus on economic development in New Orleans East and across the city.  He will work to expand career opportunities, raise the wage beyond $15 to a living wage that rises with inflation, leverage the power of the City to diversify the economy and provide modern career readiness programs.

JP Volunteers as a Trash Hopper

Friday, Gambit covered JP's experience volunteering as a trash hopper:

"Talking about the garbage is one thing. Actually peeling back the putrid layers of waste... Now that's a whole different ballgame."

"These hoppers don't just deserve a living wage, but a wage that reflects their WORTH. Their labor is invaluable, and their pay should match it."

"We do not give hoppers the respect, the honor and the pay they deserve. When you dig into this trash, it’s a public health hazard. Between rodents and vermin and flies and maggots, this is the stuff in other countries where you would have a breakout of a disease... I saw things I cannot unsee."
