Bill regarding sexual assault kits passes in committee

By Alyssa Schneider, WAFBA sex offense bill passed a committee and will now move to the Senate Floor at the Capitol. The bill from Senator JP Morrell would require all of the state's law enforcement agencies to report every year how many sexual assault kits their department is using, that all of them be processed and that none are left behind, like at a hospital.Senator Morrell says the bill would help improve communication between different police agencies when working sex assault cases."We had some kits that had not been picked up or had not been tested that date back to the 1980's which was disturbing," said Morrell, D-New Orleans. The bill could make its first appearance on the Senate Floor before the end of the week.
