State Rep. Royce Duplessis, Wave of Civic Groups Announce Endorsements of JP Morrell

State Representative Royce Duplessis and a wave of civic groups announced today their endorsements of JP Morrell for New Orleans City Council At-Large, Division 2. Early voting is open through Saturday, and Election Day is Nov. 13.

Rep. Duplessis said:

"JP is a skilled problem solver and a highly effective policymaker. Working alongside him in the state legislature, I was able to see JP’s leadership firsthand. I was there when he led a broad and diverse coalition of stakeholders in passing the Constitutional Amendment to end Split Juries and deliver our state from 138 years of Jim Crow.  I witnessed when he brought the budget process to a halt to expand the Earned Income Tax Credit to help working families with small children.  He's been a constant and consistent voice for our community, for New Orleans, and a proven leader.  Join me in supporting JP, so we can bring his leadership to help solve the many challenges facing our City."

Southern Organization for Unified Leadership (SOUL), Young Adults Political Association (YAPA), Louisiana Independent Federation of Electors (LIFE), and Treme Improvement Political Society (Treme TIPS) are also endorsing JP Morrell.

LIFE was founded by Mayor Dutch Morial almost 50 years ago to strengthen communities through voter registration, education and advocacy.  It laid the foundation for the election of our city's first black mayor and fights for diversity in leadership.  SOUL, led by civil rights leader Don Hubbard, is a pillar of the community and represents the continued effort to push for equal representation in city leadership and advocating for the issues that are important to the people of New Orleans.

“I'm humbled to have the endorsement of these esteemed organizations. Their history and what they’ve meant to the African American community is beyond measure. As I've done my entire career, I will continue to work hard everyday to make New Orleans a better city for everyone,” said Morrell.

Morrell is also the only candidate in this race endorsed by the Democratic Party, Independent Women's Organization,  AFL-CIO, and Alliance for Good Government, among others. See a list of organizations, elected officials and community leaders endorsing JP Morrell below.
