NOLA Rainbow Advocates and Transgender Advocate and Community Leader Dylan Waguespack Endorse JP
NOLA Rainbow Advocates and New Orleanian and transgender community leader Dylan Waguespack announced their endorsements of JP Morrell for City Council At-Large, Div. 2.
"JP has been a leading advocate for LGBTQIA+ people for years. He's been an outspoken, loud, constant progressive voice for an inclusive Louisiana, where we can live our lives without fear," said Waguespack. "JP will be a force on the New Orleans City Council to bring equality to our city. He understands the urgency of the challenges our community faces and will deliver on Day 1."
NOLA Rainbow Advocates, a group that supports "LGBTQ+ candidates and allies," also announced that JP Morrell has earned its endorsement.
As a legislator of 14 years, JP fought for the LGBTQIA+ community:
He fought to protect the LGBTQIA+ community by by banning discrimination against trans people in the workplace.
He led the effort to have Louisiana's marriage law reflect that love is love.
He was recognized by the Forum for Equality, receiving its Acclaim Award for his advocacy on behalf of the LGBTQIA+ community
As our next Councilmember at-Large, JP will lead us:
He will advocate for equality and equity every day, not every election year
He will work to make sure that New Orleans' values are protected from encroachment by the State partisan politics
"I've known Dylan for years and we have been part of a great team, fighting for equity at the state level," Morrell said. "It means a lot to me to have his support, as well as the support of New Orleans Rainbow Advocates, because it is demonstrative of my constant efforts to be an ally to those who fight for true equity. The LGBTQIA+ community is loud and proud in it's advocacy. I believe that those who seek to aid them should be as loud, and unapologetic in their support."
Dylan Waguespack and NOLA Rainbow Advocates are the latest to join a growing list of supporters for Morrell, which includes over 200 women community leaders and advocates, including Leslie Bouie and Madalyn Schenk; elected officials, including Sens.
