Sen. JP Morrell to Participate in Panel: How do we end Sexual Assault on Campus?

The Big Issue Series at Tulane Hillel Launches the First of the Five-Part 2014-15 Series

Please join Senator JP Morrell Wednesday at 7pm, for the first in a 5-part panel series convened by Tulane Hillel at 912 Broadway in New Orleans. The kick-off panel will focus on one of the foremost issues affecting lives at colleges nationwide: rape and sexual assault of college students on and off campus. Senator Morrell recently formed a task force to tackle the issue of sexual assaults on college campuses. He will offer legislative and political viewpoints regarding the issues of sexual assault and rape.

In January 2014, the White House released statistics stating that one in five women will be sexually assaulted while in college, and that just 12 percent report the crime. This panel will work to promote dialogue around a key issue affecting universities and communities throughout our region.

Tulane Law School Professor and former Assistant United States Attorney Tania Tetlow will serve as the moderating panelist. Additional panelists will include Loyola University Associate Professor Marcus Kondkar, whose research includes work on patterns of intimate partner homicide; Scott Schneider of Tulane University’s Office of the General Counsel who focuses on compliance with an array of federal regulation; Tara Wilson, Tulane Junior, member of SAPHE and Panhellenic Council President-Elect; Julia Broussard who serves as Tulane University’s Coordinator of Violence Prevention and Support Services; and Louisiana State Senator JP Morrell.
