Sen. Jimmy Harris and Roy Glapion Endorse JP Morrell

tate Senator James "Jimmy" Harris, III and Algiers business owner and community leader, Roy Glapion, announced their endorsements of JP Morrell for City Council At-Large, Division 2 in the November 13 election.

Senator Harris said, "I've worked with JP for years and can say, without reservation, he's the person we need as Councilmember At-Large. His leadership in the Louisiana State Senate led to tremendous wins for New Orleans. He led the fight to lock down our #FairShare of tourism revenue. He secured tens of millions of dollars to build the Louisiana Children's Museum in City Park, as well as rebuild our parks and playgrounds throughout the city. He's a son of Gentilly who never forgot where he came from and who has represented the people of our city well. We need JP's leadership because he takes on the problems that plague our city with a true sense of urgency. JP will work to finally solve the problems that have been here for generations."

Roy Glapion said, "JP understands Algiers and its needs. He will truly listen to our community, and he will fight to make sure city government works with us rather than continuing to do things to us. JP will be the Councilmember At-Large we need - who will succeed where others have failed. We don't need more years of empty promises of pot holes unfilled, increased crime with no plan and out-of-control blight.  JP will finally deal with Brechtel Park and the golf course! He will deliver for Algiers, and I am proud to support him!"

Morrell has been a relentless advocate for policies that place people first. He started serving our community as a public defender right out of law school and later was elected to the State Legislature in 2006 – where he helped pass a historic package of laws to increase protections for the survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, and a constitutional amendment to require unanimous jury decisions in felony trials, undoing a Jim Crow-era law in Louisiana. Morrell never backed down from impossible fights when he knew what was best for the people of our city.

JP Morrell said, "I'm honored to have earned Senator Harris' and Roy's endorsements. With their support, once elected Councilmember At-Large, I will deliver for the people of New Orleans. We can't afford more of the same meaningless talk and empty promises. It's time for action."

Morrell will be on the ballot in the Nov. 13 election as the only official candidate of the Democratic Party, and he is also endorsed by New Orleans Coalition, Independent Women's Organization (IWO), AFL-CIO, Alliance for Good Government, Independent Democratic Electors Association (IDEA),UNITE HERE, Voters Organized to Educate (VOTE), United Teachers of New Orleans (UTNO), New Orleans East Leadership (NOEL), the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), the Southeastern Louisiana Chapter of the National Association of Building and Constructions Trades (NABTU), NOLA Rainbow Advocates, and over 200 women leaders and advocates, among others.
